Choice

I read a fantastic book on choice that changed how I see my career. Every day, I continue to choose to be a doctor. It's up to me. The Art of Choosing by Sheena Iyengar reminds us that we have control over many of the options that come up in our lives.

When I get bogged down in my day to day life, the feeling that there is just too much to do, that I can't believe this is the career I chose, I remind myself why I made this choice in the first place.

Why did you choose to become a doctor? Think back to the essay that you wrote to get your med school interview. What were you hoping to accomplish by choosing this profession? Our ideas about what is important change with maturity. If there are any changes in what you are hoping to achieve, are they self-imposed or did they come from other people’s expectations of you?
